On to the wedding! We drove from my parents' house in Spanish Fork to Salt Lake City, where Dave's youngest brother Matthew was going to marry his sweetheart, Stephanie, in the Salt Lake Temple. Thanks to the carpool lane, we made it with plenty of time to spare.
Since they got married on a Thursday, we didn't have to wait very long before Matt and Stephanie came out as newlyweds, to rousing cheers. We had a good time waiting and comparing how Dave's brother Alan and his sweet Corbin look SO much like Dave and Hank. Once Matt and Steph showed up, we all moved around to the west side of the temple to take pictures on the stairs.
All the boys quickly decided playing with the huge spotlights on the grass was WAY more fun than posing for pictures.
Dave managed to get a picture of Matt and Stephanie when "our side" wasn't posing for pictures.
More cousins joining in the fun!
Poor Hank! By this point in our trip, he was so tired of going places and being off his normal schedule. It was such a struggle to keep him happy while we were at the temple, especially since he was hot and hungry and exhausted. Just chilling in the shade. Some of the Scherbel clan--Ben (yawning), Ruth (in the peach skirt), Hannah (in the white shirt with the pink necklace), Elsa (with the corsage), Holli (black polka-dot dress), and several of Dave's cousins (whose names I can't remember. You can cut me some slack--he has about 25).
Trying to entertain Hank
After we were done with pictures, we went to a nearby church to eat lunch. We had catered Cafe Rio and Subway and it was delicious. I was grateful we ate at the church, so the kids could run around the cultural hall and play in the nursery and burn off some steam. After cleaning up, we got back in the car and drove to Logan, to check into our hotel for the night and then attend the reception. I love this picture of the Salt Lake temple with the obnoxious traffic light in front of it. Grrrr. Enjoying ice cream at the reception. Ice cream is a big deal in the Scherbel family. Dave's grandpa and late grandma have always kept a freezer stocked full of Schwan's and you can reach in and have some any time you want, particularly after helping out around their house. Matt and Stephanie had an ice cream bar for the refreshments at their reception and it was very much appreciated by all the nieces and nephews.
Uncle Ben with many of his nieces and nephews. Ben is Dave's oldest brother and he is so patient with all the little kids who love him dearly. Abbi, who is sitting on Ben's lap in the red, loves Ben and is always near him if she can help it. Abbi has a black baby doll named Sister Porter after a teacher at church and Ben was tasked with babysitting her the day of the wedding. He didn't complain once!
Holli and Ruth enjoying some ice cream. Scott and Stephanie's Dad seemed to be enjoying their conversation in front of the adorable backdrop that Stephanie built. The whole wedding was really cute and perfectly Stephanie and Matt.
Me and Hank practicing our winks.
As I mentioned, we had an ice cream bar at the wedding. Hank kept running over and picking out different bowls of ice cream, and sticking his pudgy hands into the topping jars. He especially gravitated to the Reece's pieces and kept stealing more and more. Finally we convinced him to just eat them like a puppy, and that seemed to satisfy him for a while.
This is a dreadful picture of them, but I had to throw one last photo of Matt and Stephanie on here. They were so darn cute! Matt was so proud of his lovely wife. I am so excited for them to be starting out their happy life together! I just can't believe that Matt is old enough to get married, since at our wedding 8 years ago, this is how Matt looked:
Yup, he's the tiny guy on the left. Happy wedding, Matthew and Stephanie! We love you guys!
