The Big Move

This past week has been the craziest of my entire life, bar none. I thought getting married was wild, and having a baby wasn't exactly relaxing. But moving with a three-week old baby? Definitely the most insane thing I've ever done. Luckily we have been planning this move since about October, and Dave and I began weeding things out then and haven't really stopped. Having Dave home all the time the past two weeks made life infinitely better too, but this move was still SO hard. Jed picked up on the mess and stress and has stopped eating and sleeping regularly. He is so confused and only wants to nurse for comfort and then be held. To make matters worse, he won't take his plug from me, because he knows I've got something better to offer. Poor sweet boy!!

Although this move was incredibly difficult, my amazing Scherbel family helped us SO much. Scott came over from Big Piney, Karl came over from Etna and Peter left his adorable babies all day to help us. Honestly, we couldn't have done it without them. Scott kept coming to me while I was nursing Jed and saying "does this go too?" You should have seen the elation when I could say "no" to the few things that actually stayed in our apartment.

We have SO MUCH STUFF. I feel like a character in a book my mom used to read to us as kids called "In Search of the Saveopotomous." The Saveopotomous was this creature that saved other people's junk so they could go off and live minimalist lives and not be burdened. No matter how hard I try, I am the Saveopotomous. I have canning jars up the wazoo because someday we WILL have a garden and I WILL bottle salsa and peaches to my heart's content. We have tons of books that we're not willing to get rid of. We have Dave's mission stuff, my research from Midway, dishes, towels... on and on and on, the stuff that makes a life. It is good stuff, and ours is a good life, so I really shouldn't complain!

We have moved to Big Piney so Dave can survey for his dad while we wait to hear back on the various jobs Dave has applied for. We are so happy to have had a place to come and be able to spend more time with Scott, Elsa, Ben, Matt and Hannah. We are also so happy to have some income while we wait! For those of you who don't know, the Scherbels live in an old LDS church house that the family has remodeled. The chapel, which is now the playroom, is where we are living. It is sort-of like living in a storage unit, since we're surrounded by some of the family cast-offs, as well as all our boxes. Dave and I have been pretty creative with all our boxes and designed a little "apartment." Here are some pictures of that:

You can see I'm not joking about having a ton of stuff. But it's okay--it makes for great walls!

We love this picture of Jed. He does this funny thing sometimes when he tries to sneeze but it doesn't come out and it ends up as this huge open-mouthed sigh. We got him right in the middle of the sigh and I love it.
Here's me and Jed during the fracas. I look a lot more calm than I was feeling, but I think it is just a stupor brought on by lack of sleep and the stress of wondering which box our clean underwear are in :)
