playing in the leaves

Monday we did some chores around the house. Dave and Jed raked the front yard. I am so glad they did because it started to rain Monday night and hasn't stopped since, and all our backyard leaves are a soggy mess. The front yard's leaves are soggy too, but now they're in the compost heap, where that's allowed.

Anyway, Dave and I had a fun time showing Jed about playing in the leaves. He thought it was great.

After we got done raking, we walked down to our neighbor's house because she has some figs she's going to give us and teach me how to make Fig Preserves. But she wasn't home. On the way back, Jed defiantly refused to walk by himself. He followed sullenly along for a while, then gave up and sat in the road. He played with some pebbles in a desultory way and would sneak glances at us occasionally to see if we'd relent. When Dave and I got a house-length away, Jed cried harder, so Dave finally went and carried him home.

I thought once he learned to walk, I'd be fighting to carry him occasionally!
