Jed turned two on Monday. It was an interesting day. Jed's still got a little bit of sickness, he's decided that sometimes what Mama asks him to do isn't what he wants to do, and suddenly all he wants to eat are goldfish crackers and cheerios. Sickness, defiance and dietary rebellion made for a unique birthday.
After dinner, we gathered the cake, the presents and the computer for a little Skyping with the Morgan grandparents.
More candles! How Jed love to blow out flame. You can tell he's already blowing in this picture.
Dave finally had to block Jed from blowing out the candles before we sang because he'd already blown them out twice.
We played and talked with Nana while we ate cake and opened presents (Dad, we really missed you!). Jed got clothes, an awesome card game and some little Matchbox cars. Jed loves anything with wheels, so they were the favorite present by far.
Daddy and Jed breaking in the new cars

Little pudgy hands gripping that new car so lovingly.

Jed even went to bed holding his new cars!

Maybe I'm placing too much stock in all the "terrible two" lore, but Jed has been less than a joy to parent lately. I am trying to be more patient, to explain things better, to pause more often for play and hugs. I don't know if it's working--today was better than yesterday, so that's a good sign, right?--but I do know that I love Jed so very much and I'm so glad he came to join our family two years ago. Happy Birthday, buddy!

Happy Birthday Jed! I have to say though, Holly, that I am glad to hear that I am not the only parent not having a terrific time with a (nearly) two-year old. Good luck! I know I need it...
