how to encourage naps in a boy who thinks he's given them up

This post could alternately be titled I am guilty of sleep-depriving my child.

Poor Jed, his life has been a constant state of upheaval for a solid month now. You'd think that since we're basically settled, it wouldn't be this way any more, but that's just not the case. We have been busy exploring, it's lighter much later at night than back in Texas, and it has been so hot and muggy off and on that we've been sleeping all together in the basement during the worst of it. All of this makes for horribly irregular bedtimes.















In order to deal with this messed up sleep, Jed has compensated by crashing. I will find him spread out, sleeping for all he's worth, usually in a puddle of sweat.

I feel really bad about this, but I love finding him this way, too. He stops looking like such a big boy when he sleeps this hard and I remember our first summer together, when I would sneak in to his room just to watch him sleep.

I love this boy! I am so glad to be his mama, and I'm excited to be bringing another boy to love into our family soon. Hopefully he will be just as good a sleeper as his big brother!
