Saturday, after some of our Easter festivities, we went for a walk in the woods with my parents. Dave had seen some wild turkeys doing their mating dance on Friday and we were hoping to see some more, so we headed back to the same area where he'd been the day before.
We went to Cooke Pond, which is one of the large ponds dammed up on the AuSable river near where we live.
I had to laugh at this sign. Don't worry, we didn't see any bears. I think it is a little too early for them to be out and about yet. Jed and Nana got a head start on the rest of us and we had to hurry to catch up.
We gave Hank a dried leaf and he was so pleased!
Jed had a blast running around the forest and in the mud during our walk. We walked along the bank of the pond but didn't get a chance to see any turkeys. Jed had a good time running along the yellow lines in the road and playing with a big stick on our way back to the vehicles.
Then he decided he needed to measure us with his stick. First he talked Nana into laying down on the road so he could see how many sticks tall she was, and then Papah was the next victim.
After we were finished with our measuring, we got our picnic lunch from the cars and sat down on the shore of the pond to eat.
(Sorry Nana, caught you with a tomato headed to your mouth)
Even Hank enjoyed our little picnic, eating squash and pears!
But he decided he preferred sand and rocks to that squash. I think that is not the last time he will try to eat some sand. Then I nursed Hank while Dave and Jed enjoyed the soft straw and everyone threw rocks and tried to break the ice on the pond. It was a fun day!
