Happy Fourth of July! I love this holiday! I love our country and I'm so proud to be an American. I'm thankful for the blessing of freedom, for the right to work for what I have, for the right to believe what I choose. I'm so grateful for the men and women who have fought for 230 plus years to keep our country free, and for those who serve us daily as police officers, fire fighters and other service personnel. We are SO blessed to live in this beautiful nation!
I really want Jed to understand about Independence Day and to feel the joy I feel, so we have been doing little crafts all week to help us better understand our national symbols.
First we made cookie-cutter stars. We had a lot of fun stamping the paper with different reds and blues.
Next we made tin-can windsocks. I think Jed was disappointed that Jeremy didn't want to paint a can, so he was a little uncooperative, but when all was said and done, he was thrilled.
Later, after they had dried, he helped Dave hang them all up.
They look so festive!
We also made flags out of pipe cleaners and sparkly balls, and painted fireworks with pipe cleaners. I find we do better if the crafts are quick and easy. I have started showing Jed pictures of the end product and he does much better. Our favorite craft, hands down, were our parade t-shirts, which we made last week and wore today! Jed did a blue hand and white stripes on his red shirt and we helped Hank put a blue foot on his white shirt, and then Jed did the red stripes. They look so darling! Jed was so excited to finally be able to wear his flag shirt. When we got to the parade, he kept pointing out all the flags, and he was proud to stand and hold his hand over his heart as the flag passed by.
Happy birthday, America! We love you!
