We have been meaning to take the newly-painted canoe out for a spin but just haven't had a chance until we decided to MAKE time. So, last Monday evening, we took our dinner out on the river and had a lovely time.
We only have one small paddle, so the boys have to take turns. Obviously it was Hank's turn. He only dropped it in the water once--the melee to retrieve it was a good lesson for us all.
Jed loves to look over the side of the canoe and watch for fish. He saw several!
We had such a great night on the river. We saw herons, kingfishers, cedar waxwings, geese, ducks, and a bald eagle. It was fun to see the boys be so excited about the birds we saw. Hank has great eyes and would often be the first to see something. He was very quick to point and say "that! See that!"
We stopped at a nice sandbar for dinner and found some frogs. Jed and Hank had a good time wading around in the warmish water and splashing together. Dave and I enjoyed resting our tired arms and bums for a little while.
I love my water babies!
Hands off, ladies--he's all mine!
We were on the river quite a while--it took us about 3 hours. It was a late night but worth it--we all needed a peaceful night on the river.
