Sock Dogs

For Christmas, Dave gave me the best present: I already own Martha's Encyclopedia of Crafts, and I checked the Fabric Crafts out at the library so many times that they wouldn't let me take it any more. Dave took pity on me (and the library) and I happily found it under the tree. I quickly bookmarked all the projects I wanted to attempt, and today you get to see the first: Sock Dogs. Basically, a pair of socks is cut into about 7 different pieces, which are then hand-sewed to become dogs. I think they're the cutest things ever. In the book, there is a basic dog pattern and several variations depending on what type of dog you want to make. You can do a dalmatian, a dachsund, a bulldog, and any other dog your imagination (and socks) let you think of. I had so much fun sewing these guys. It only takes about 3 hours to make a dog, perfect for a project during naptime.

I'm not really sure what type of dog this little guy would be--probably your basic mutt. :)

This little girl is my attempt at a bulldog. She turned out pretty well, but Dave likes to tease me about her ears. He says she must be part donkey.

I think she's adorably alert.

My sister-in-law Ruth and my aunt Cara are both expecting babies this summer, so I thought I'd get the dogs done before coming to Utah and be able to give them in person. I'm so happy it worked out this way!
