D week

I don't know if your life has been like ours, but this week has been c-r-a-z-y!! Jed and I started D week out great--we talked about letter D, used our bubble letter cards to make letter d's out of buttons, traced d's over and over, and added letter D to our alphabet on the fridge. We read books about dolphins and dogs and did lots of drawing. We also watched D videos on SesameStreet.org --I try to do this at the beginning of the week to get him excited about a new letter, and we usually revisit some old favorites from previous weeks, too.

Halloween has made our week fun and busy, but detracted from our discussions of letter D quite a bit. Tuesday, at story time, we had a halloween parade!

Anna, Kaiya, Holland and Jed with Miss Gloria.

We also did a couple of halloween crafts. Jed helped me sew his Peter Pan hat (more on this in another post, hopefully) and we painted a pumpkin. We went to a friend's house for playgroup and made yummy caramel apples.

We also used our hands and feet to make a spider and a ghost for the fridge. Jed had a GREAT time getting all covered in paint. Thank goodness for acrylic!

I really liked the way we did the beginning of the week. I have been trying to do a lot more activities that focus on letter recognition and they seem to be paying off. I have also decided that I am going to spend 2 weeks on each letter, mostly because I find so many great activities online and in books that there's no way to squish them all into one week. So, here we come, D week part 2!
