t-ball thus far

Jed has been doing t-ball for a couple of weeks now. At first he was really confused and all he wanted to do was play in the gravel:

 When they would do catching practice, he and another little boy would build "sandcastles" instead.

 We started working with him at home a little more and he has an incredibly patient and kind coach who helps him along quite a bit.

 Here they are stretching before Jed's first game. The official first game was the Saturday we had Stake Conference and we had so much going on that morning that he didn't get to stay for the game.

 Jed only really likes to bat, so when his team is in the outfield, he could care less about what's happening on the field. He really just enjoys digging and comes home SO sandy!

 Jed's friend Adriana from school is on his t-ball team as well. We usually sit by Adriana's family and Hank and Adriana's sister Peyton have a good time looking at each other. Peyton is a year old and learning to walk and she thinks Hank is pretty cool. Hank would love to get closer to Peyton but can't seem to figure out how to do it. They both had a great time hanging on to the fence, watching the kids run around.

 I LOVE the look on Hank's face here. He seems to be saying "oh yeah, I am quite the stud muffin."

 Jed up to bat! Sometimes his coach makes him bat right-handed although Jed prefers to bat south-paw. He never smacks the ball very well when he's batting righty and we have asked the coach to just let Jed do it his way. During the first couple of practices and games, Jed would hit the ball and the run to pick it up, and then he would get really mad when the other team got it instead. We realized Jed has never seen a baseball game and has no idea what he's actually supposed to do, so we have been working with him a lot in the backyard. He and Dave have such a great time running the "bases" in our tiny yard, and Jed gets excited to run to first base now after he hits.

Jed on base. He loves this red batting helmet and gets a little frustrated when he has to give it up. There is also a pink one the girls share and I was a little worried he would want that one, but he seems content wearing the red one that matches his shoes.

 

He has improved rapidly and really seems to enjoy being out there with his teammates now. Even though I feel we could have waited a year to let him play, I think he's doing really well. I don't care if he's a sports star (and considering the gene pool he came from, it's highly unlikely); I am just glad he's having fun and being exposed to new activities. Yay T-ball!
