The next day of our trip, we went to the Seneca Park Zoo in Rochester. We had a great time and it was fun to do something easy for the kids. The zoo was perfect--small enough to be really accessible, big enough to have some awesome animals, and the weather was the perfect temperature for the animals to actually be out! It was a great day.
My favorite animals were the snow leopards. They were so beautiful. We saw them at the beginning of the day and I had to go back and visit them right before we left. So gorgeous!
This tiger was so fantastic. When we walked up to her cage, she was up on her hind legs with her front paws against the fence, stretching. She was so active and fun to watch.
The kids loved the sea lions. We had fun watching them above the water and then went down below to watch them swim.
We all had a great time posing in the African Safari cut-outs. I love how Hank is just peeking up over the top.
The zoo was so beautifully situated. The trees were absolutely gorgeous.
There were three lion cubs who were quite active, wrestling and acting like big kittens. We stayed for a long time to watch them.
Baboons, ugh. I am not a fan of primates. We did get to see a mama orangutan with her 6 month old baby and they were very sweet.
Hank really loved the elephants.
At the end, we walked through this little bird habitat. There were LOTS of different, beautiful, exotic birds here, just walking around. These guys (I can't remember what they were called) took a liking to me and stood quietly, clucking to me for several minutes. It was really fun.
I think the zoo was probably Jed's favorite thing about our trip. He had so much fun running around with Eva and Josh; he got to use the smashed penny machine in the reptile house; Grandpa bought him a Spider Man ice cream at the refreshment stand, and he got to be up close and personal with a Gila Monster, which he called the "monster snake" and talked about the whole way home. It was an awesome day.
