fun in the tub

Hank has grown too long to be washed in the sink! I am so sad, because I love washing babies in the kitchen sink. But his legs are so long and instincually he kicks against the side of the tub when his feet touch it, bonking his head against the other side.

Last night was the boys' first bath together and they both really liked it. Jed loved having Hank to love on in another location and Hank really liked all the room to kick around.

I love Hank's little smile in this one!
Jed kept pulling Hank's "modesty washcloth" off so Dave put the puff there instead. We laughed and laughed at how much it resembled a little tutu. I forget how much fun it is to have a tiny baby because you can do the dorkiest things to them :) Jed doesn't submit nearly as willingly any more.

so much for pampering

Dave stayed home later than usual this morning because he's working around town. After an awesome breakfast, I decided to take a real shower.

A Real Shower. You know, the kind where you leisurely shave your legs, exfoliate and condition well instead of breeze through shampoo, conditioner and the token scraping of your underarms in 7 minutes flat while your toddler tries to tip over the diaper bucket and shut himself in your under-sink cabinet.

It was bliss. My legs and hair got ample attention and my skin was glowing when I stepped out of the shower. I put in my contacts and went through the face routine and blow-dried my hair without Jed slamming his fingers in the drawer.

And then I brushed my soft and semi-lovely locks...just in time to remember that Dave had fished my brush out of the toilet a couple of hours earlier.

um, yeah. Have a great day!

potpourri for 300, Alex

Bathtime is Jed's special time with Daddy. Dave undresses Jed, lets him stand in the tub while the water is running, plays fun games with the cup and the ducky, helps him brush his teeth after being in the tub and gets him dressed in his jammies for bed. Jed loves this one-on-one time and he always has a great time. The other night they were having a particularly good time, splashing and laughing and carrying on.

The best mohawk

Jed loves his ducy

Here are some pretty cute videos of our boy, if I do say so myself.

On a completely different note, tonight we were multi-tasking. I was doing some packing and wiping down all the shelves in the pantry and garage and helping Dave put new struts on the front of our truck. I say helping but mostly I was holding things and saying "Are you okay?" when a noise sounded unfortunate. I didn't throw any bolts in the air or lose them or swear or anything! So, that was good. Anyway, Dave got the new strut all fixed up with the old spring (I don't know too many details so I'll not go into them) and was trying to attach the whole thing back to the truck. I got to help him pound the bolt that connected the axel to the strut. It was so hard to get the two holes lined up. We kept lifting the strut so its hole would line up with the axel's hole and it would slip. My job was to pound the bolt as Dave lifted, and when it finally slipped through, we both gave a shout of triumph. Seriously, the only other time I have been that excited about shoving something through a small space was when Jed was born. It was great! And--lucky us!--there's the other side to do tomorrow night.

Too Big for the Sink!

Last night we had to give Jed a bath in the sink again because Hannah beat us to the tub (we forgive you, Hannah!). It has been a long time since we've bathed him in the sink, and last night we were reminded why. Jed has outgrown the sink!

Doesn't he look like a guy in the old Western movies where they bathe in the wooden tub? I keep thinking of the Sacketts movie with Tom Selleck drinking whiskey with his knees up to his chest. I love Jed's big belly here, too. Such a cutie!
A little grimace--"It's a little snug in here, guys!"
Glad to be out of the tub, snuggling with Daddy. I love this picture because Jed's cheeks are so adorable, and I love the dimples on his hands. He has the biggest paws--they are the sweetest little things! Sweet Jed!
